Sad Hours are a casual, community-centered event series for anyone navigating grief. We bring people together to talk, listen, and connect over what’s really going on in our lives – griefy or not – in warm, welcoming spaces like local breweries, bars, and cafes.
But instead of pretending everything’s fine, attending a Sad Hour gives you permission to bring your whole self (even the messy parts) and just be with others doing the same thing. There’s no pressure… just a place to feel what you’re feeling while enjoying a drink with others.
It’s not a support group, and it’s not faith-based. Sad Hours are just real conversations with real people about real stuff, sometimes over a drink. No pressure, no expectations, just space for whatever you’re carrying.
Grieve Leave was founded by Rebecca Feinglos, who created the platform after losing both of her parents by the time she was 30. She realized how rarely we’re given room to talk about grief in honest, non-clinical and non-judgmental ways. Sad Hours are one of our ways of making that space. It’s grief support that doesn’t suck.
We’ve hosted Sad Hours across North Carolina (the home of Grieve Leave) and way beyond – in breweries, bars, restaurants, and even outdoors. Each one is different but the vibe is the same: warm, low-key, and welcoming.
Yes! You can fill in an interest form explaining more about your plan for a Sad Hour. Once your event is approved by Team Grieve Leave, we’ll share your event on our calendar, and share your posts on social media to help publicize the event.
