Are known locally to the community
Value authentic conversations
Allow for folks to sit in smaller groups and mingle
Have a quiet enough environment that people can actually talk

4. Proposed ProgrammingEvery Sad Hour is a little different, but the key point is to just…let people be together, however they show up. There is no need for formal programming, but you could host a Sad Hour that includes a structured activity or a speaker, for example.

5. How will costs be covered for this Sad Hour?We often host events that are free to sign up for on a platform like Eventbrite, but people pay for their own tabs when they arrive. That keeps costs on the host to virtually zero. But, hosting an event with a ticket price on the front end helps to ensure attendance. If you go that route, communicate with the venue if they can offer some kind of a special drink or food package for attendees, if they want to split proceeds with you, etc. You can also work with partners to financially sponsor an event.

6. What are your social media handles? A significant social media following is *not* required to host a Sad Hour.
